I may be the only one who thinks £500 is a little expensive for a plastic bodied lens. The latest version of this once excellently built lens is made of textured plastic.

Despite this, I love this lens. The optical quality cannot be faulted. If you examine very closely you might notice a slight drop in sharpness at f/2.8, but by f/4 this lens is truly stunning.

AF is fast for a non AF-S lens, and very accurate.

I bought this used and love this lens. I use it to photograph blooms on trees which are usually hard to get to. The bokeh on this lens is outstanding and sharpness too. Mostly I like the color rendition. SInce mine is an earlier version the body is the crinkled metal finish, I have no idea when that was cnaged to plastic.

Great lens to have and it fits into a Tamrac lens pouch and can be carried on the waist. Built in shade is handy but not the greatest. Nice for people pics with pleasing bokeh. Handles as easily as a 135mm but remember to keep your shutter speeds at least 1/250 for best hand held results. Very sharp all around except slightly softer at F2.8, no problem.

After 10 years of use and abuse, still my favorite Nikon tele. Light and extremely sharp. Bright and clear color.
Built-in lens shade works with plain filters but has to be retracted for polarizers or similar...
