This is an excellent lens in general, given the wide coverage for this zoom. Wide open at 16mm it is a bit soft in center, getting progressively softer toward the edges on a full frame camera. However, at f5.6 it is very sharp through f/11. At 20mm it is a bit soft at f2.8 but very good to excellent from f4.0 on. From 24-35mm this lens is generally excellent at all apertures. Very nice contrast and solidly built. On a Canon 1Ds Mark III, images sharpen up nicely with this lens.

Nice contrast and saturation. very sharp right through the zoomin range. Colour Fringing at open aperture more at wide side. But inspite of all this it a worth it general purpose lens.

Very good lens, better then the mark I in every aspect. Better flare control, better CA control, better contrast and colours. The sharpness is also better then the mark I but the Nikon 14-14 is the one to beat.

One of the better lens of Canon. Very good sharpness right through the frame except in extreme corners. Very good contrast and colour renderation. One annoying factor is the barrel distortion. This might not appear with people but is very visible with architectural and interiors. Since canon claims it to be an architectural lens, it should have faired well with stright lines.
