Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2

Tamron has announced a new version of the highly popular SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD telephoto zoom lens, the SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2, which offers enhanced performance, and improved ergonomics.

The lens features faster and more accurate AF, enhanced VC (Vibration Compensation) for up to 4.5 stops of image stabilisation, and an improved optical design with 21 elements in 13 groups (compared to 20 elements in the previous lens). The lens also offers an improved close focusing distance of 2.2m (compared to 2.7m for the previous version).

In addition, the lens adds a FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism, Fluorine Coating, a moisture resistant construction, and the tripod mount is compatible with Arca-Swiss style tripods.

Tamron are introducing two new optional 1.4x and 2.0x tele converters designed specifically for the new lens, which improve telephoto reach, as well as subject magnification for closer shots.

The lens will be available from the 15th of September, 2016. The Canon and Nikon mount models will be launched simultaneously, with a Sony A mount model to be announced at a later date, without the VC feature (as Sony cameras feature a built-in shake reduction sensor). Both the Canon and Nikon versions of the lens feature an electromagnetic diaphragm system*.

This second generation “G2” lens builds upon the success of the SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD, which launched in December 2013 and continues to successfully meet photographers’ needs in the ultra-telephotography category.

The new G2 version was developed to provide superior optical performance with today’s high resolution DSLRs and to add improvements to several features including speed and accuracy of AF and VC (Vibration Compensation). Also, several new features have been added: FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism, Fluorine Coating and optional tele converters. The new lens delivers outstanding performance and a luxurious, upscale appearance, including a metal lens barrel.
