Releasing zoom on pentax F 28-80 zoom lens

I recently obtained a Pentax F 28-80mm zoom lens for use on a Pentax K10d, unfortunately it seems to be locked on the 50mm setting. I am new to photography and realize (and hope) this may be a simple problem to resolve - especially as the lens appears to be of very good quality. I wonder if anyone has advise. Thanks

If it is a SMC Pentax-F zoom then if the zoom ring is jammed it may well need attention.

Should it be a SMC Pentax-FA Power Zoom, then make sure the zoom ring is properly pulled forward or backwards to either conceal or reveal the words Power Zoom. This switches from electrically driven zoom control and manual zoom control and if between settings could conceivably be the cause of your problem.

If the lens does need repair then a working one from eBay will probably cost less than having this one repaired, although if it's in poarticularly nice condition it could still be worthwhile.
