Sony Alpha lenses

By: epzPete 772 days ago
We've just added the range of 19 Sony Alpha lenses to the lens database. Look up Sony in the lens search and you'll find specifications for all models. I believe this is the first appearance on the internet of these with full specs. You may prove me wrong ;-)

That looks like a lot of work! ;-((

I'd love to see just how good the 135mm f/1.8 Planar T* lens is.

Besides, these so called new Sony lenses are actually rebadged Minolta lenses.

Except for the Zeiss labelled ones, which are new optics based on the ZF series.

Well, the ZF lenses are on their way! ;-))

Not really the "first appearance on the internet of these with full specs" :)

You can find the most complete database of minolta af (sony alpha) mount lenses at
http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/index.asp

or if you wish only new sony lenses anounced at
http://www.dyxum.com/gear/sony/sony_lenses_database.asp

Or

inventory posted, "Except for the Zeiss labelled ones, which are new optics based on the ZF series."

This is NOT correct. The Zeiss ZA lenses are not based on the ZF lenses. They are very different designs, and are also very different from Zeiss' designs for Contax. From a statement by Sony, these Zeiss lenses are actually designed (as well as produced) by Sony (presumably to Zeiss' requirements).

Leo,

Although a bit off topic, not for all combinations off a body and a lens an adapter can be made. The distance between the lens and the film is different between camera's. This prohibites sometimes to make an adapter, the thickness of an adapter would be to much, the lens would move away from the film to much. This is the case for the Minolta and Sony body's.

Does anyone have information concerning using teleconverter lenses with Sony DSLR A100. I have tried one, and it is terrible. I have a the following Sony lenses - 18-70mm, 18-200 and 75-300. I am looking for a reasonable solution to get in the 500mm range with good quality.

LVE,

Yes, try this link/page: http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/TC/index.asp

It is a through explanation of Teleconverters.

I use a Tamron 1.4x with my 80-200 G zoom and love the DOF effects and still find it reasonably sharp. BTW - they do not like Teleconverters with lenses of less than 50mm.
Hope this helps.

Teleconverters magnify the central portion of the image and thus magnify any lens abberations as well as introducing new ones of their own. So cheap ones on cheap zooms is about the worst option one could imagine.

Expensive teleconverters can be good, but also are very expensive.

In the end, it's always debateable whether the best result will be obtained from using one of these devices, or alternatively just cropping the image from the lens on its own. The latter can give a superior result, so it's worth testing out.

A longer lens would be the best option.

Teleconverters only work on certain lenses. These lenses are usually telephoto lenses with large aperture.
