Nikor Lens suggestions?

Hi Everybody and thanks in advance for your valuable comment;

I recently bought a Nikon D3200 with kit lense AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
..... Now I plan to buy this lense AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR as I enjoy shooting long distance photos....But I have seen this new option for my ultimate lense AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR....Now my question is....

I know all the advantages and userfriendlyness of 18- 300 mm lense and even agreed to pay this high price lense for....

but my concern is on image quality...I heard that the more zoom power a DSLR lense have the less its image quality.....

Now I am agreed to change lense every time I shoot but not agrred to do any compromise on my image quality....

my one single question is can nikkor 18 - 300 lense at max magnification can give me the same quality picture as I will get with nikkor 55 - 300 lense at max magnification????

In principle you are correct that the more ambitious a zoom lens, the lower the quality could be, but this is offset by higher prices and probably more restricted maximum apertures and possibly not quite such close focusing. Variable rather than fixed apertures might also be employed. So I would expect in practice that any Nikkor lens would be up to standard.

Check out the tests on this site, EPZ and elsewhere and perhaps also visit a dealer. The dealer might let you try the lens on your camera and take a few shots from the doorway. You can then compare the shots at home to see for yourself.

Hope that helps!

Best regards

John

The Nikkor 70-300 VR works well on a 3200 and has the advantage that it will work on FX as well.
