Fantastic lens, I do not get the comments about AF. Who shoots at 1.2 moving subjects witha portrait lens. Even if it was MF only it would be worth every penny. I used to own the 85mm F/1.8 no doubt at 1.2 this lens is much sharper, and the DOF : even if you are not a pro your photos look like you were one.... Buy it if you find a used one, no need to pay twice the price for purported quicker AF....

Well, I got different experience with this lens. This lens is truly amazing. My copy (Version I) is "very" sharp even at f/1.2. It has purple fringing at wide apertures, but much less than EF85/1.8 which I owned for only 3 month. In addition, I think its focus speed is exaggerated. Being a portrait lens, its AF is fast enough for 99% of work. However, there is no true manual mode on this one. By switching to M mode, the focus movement is still control by the sensor which lags sometimes and not precise enough for f/1.2 DOF. Due to its speed and performance, I'd say it really worth 1500 bucks.

The f/1.2 is poor but 2,0-8,0 is as sharp contrast and saturation, really excellent.
is my favourite.

A gem and a beast. Very difficult lense to use. The max aperture is soooo big that you have to be very precise with the focus. I seldom use it with f/1.2 but rather often with f/1.6 .. f/1.8.
The focus speed is ridiculous. You can have a cup of coffee while it's focusing. Totally unsuitable for sports but very good for portraits and product photography.
Onve you have the time to focus this lense makes truly fantastic photos.
I've also tested the EF85/1.8 and I must say that the difference is very very small. The f/1.2 has higher saturation but the f/1.8 is as sharp. If the budget is tight I'd recommend the f/1.8 version.
Very good second hand value.
