An absolutely superb macro lens. Sharp, contrasty, incredible bokeh, mechanically sturdy - just a lovely lens in all characteristics. (The 1:1 Macro Extender is also very nice, but I use it only occasionally.)

I am using this great lens with my D-SLR Pentax DS. It belongs between my two best lenses (together with Pentax A50/1,4). You can set the aperture ring to "A" (Pentax KA mount). Its superb lens!! I am happy with it!

I picked up this lens two weeks ago. It hasn't come off my camera. I have never seen such clarity and bokeh from a lens of this focal length. Little wonder it is rated a 4.6 on photodo. I cannot believe that there is a better camera lens made at the 35mm format. Bokeh...did somebody say Bokina? Sharp...as in Tack...colors...as in saturation.

In the chemical-years i used this 90mm for almost everything(portrait, macro even sports&action). Where the superb optical performance of the AT-X M90 is no surprise, it's handling is. At minimum distance the lens is still very compact.
Big minus of the AT-X M90 is it's aperture. At a certain age, the ring that closes the aperture becomes slow so the aperture closes to late or not at all. As i recently moved from Contax to Canon, my good-old AT-X will find it's place on a bellows where the aperture thing is no issue, and the old champ can go far beyond 1:1 Review by: bv on Aug 1st, 2006

I use this lens on a F5/FM2 and made some comparision shots with the AF Nikkor 85mm f1,8 and the Nikkor AIS 105 f2,5 on a Nikon D200. Wide open at f2,5 at 4m, sharpness in the center was +1/2 the corners +. At f4 the center was as good as it can get ++ the corners were not far behind. Bokeh is suberb, better than the Nikkor 85mm f1,8 and the AIS 105 f2,5. Those compare well in sharpness at 4m, but close up the Tokina ATX delivers better contrast and sharpness, a real gem. Close up its great to 1:2. If you use the macroconverter close down to f5,6_f8.
I shoot also macro with the sigma EX APO 180mm f3,5, the bokeh of this great lens is a bit less convincing than the ATX 90mm f2,5. On a D200 it becomes a 135mm, which is good in relation to flight distances. Review by: littlefish on Jul 24th, 2006

Great lens - very sharp. I use this on my Nikon D-50. The aperture is broken so it sits on f2.5, but when I zoom in with photoshop its still very sharp. In fact I think the lens is sharper than the 6.1mp can pick up - just wish i could fix the aperture.
