This is a great little lens that is particularly useful for low-light situations. It's a FANTASTIC walk-around lens as well. I used it extensively in a studio doing product photography in conjunction with my D3, as it offered the best focal distance in the limited space I was working in. After extensive use, I could see that it's not tack-sharp like some of the high-end Nikkor lenses, but it still performed fairly well; and it's a great price.

Very good lens. Seems better than the 50mm F1.4 both in sharpness and in flare control.Normal on my D70. Good when the light goes down.

This is close to a "normal" lens when used on a 1.5 digital slr. If you purchase Nikkor for optical quality, and rugged build, this lens delivers for you. There's a reason why the "normal" field of view was so popular during the film era, it naturally closely matches your eyesight's perspective. It becomes the best prime for a "walking lens." This is one of the best of Nikkor's primes.
