This is a very good quality lens. Very well built, very good image quality.
The outer barrel is made of high strenght plastic, the mount (and I suppose the most of inner structure) is made of metal.
It's an ultrasonic lens, so no noise and near istant focusing. Furthemore no nasty rotating front element and no barrel lenght variation during focusing.
Image quality? Even wide open it's very good to excellent in the center, a little less in the borders with slight chromatic aberration in high contrast situations, however the overall quality is more than you could expect.
When stopped down it's an all-round excellent piece of glass.
Colors are always very faithful and the contrast is on the high side.
Last but not least: on a crop camera, this lens became a perfect (and fast) normal prime (28*1.6=44.8 mm).
