What is also worth being mentioned, besides the issues in the previous review, is that this lens' corner sharpness is just as good as its center sharpness. A feature that is hard to find. Theoretically (ie according to MTF data) it has an even higher resolution in the corner than in the already excellent center!
Combined with Leica's 2x-APO-Extender, all theses features are maintained, confirming that it is very close to APO standars because this behavior is guaranteed by Leica only for APO lenses.

This lens has not been labeled APO by Leica but it surely performs like it is. Sharp and contrasty wide open, the lens is best used with a tripod, monopod or a shoulder stock when handheld. I find it less suited for inflight bird shots due the long focus throw, although I've had some success at this, especially when using the shoulder stock and electric release combination with the R8. The rotation collar has a button release for 90 degree rotation and is well damped. Color rendition, as with most Leica lenses, is excellent and, as with most Leica Telyt's it's solidly built and has silky smooth focusing.
