I just sold this lens and replaced it with the newer XR.
It is an acceptable performer (the LD Super)from 28-90mm, so so from 90-135mm. very poor at 200mm. It suffers from light falloff at wide apertures and will only focus correctly if your slr has a cross basis
for its center focusing.

I had this lens for a few months and from the first day of trying it I knew there was a problem. Overall the image quality was reasonably ok, but in bright conditions it flared dreadfully on high-contrast borders, even on white shoes, leading to a nasty purple bloom that is extremely hard if not impossible to get rid of in PP. This might not be a problem on other cameras, as it might be a result of the combo of this lens and my camera - a K10D.
At focal lengths under 180mm it is ok, but go beyond that at your peril, as the IQ plummets, so treat this as a 28-180 lens.
In short, I'm glad I bought this, because I'd always been leary of superzooms and this wasn't as bad as I expected. The purple flaring only crops up occasionally, but it's enough for me to replace this with another manual lens - the Viv 28-200, which has none of this trouble.
