This lens has a handy zoom range and is light enough for casual travelling around. Sharpness is not great, though, but for general use it probably doesn't matter. You wouldn't want to blow up to huge sizes though. It tends to focus hunt quite a bit, but the limiter on the side helps reduce this if you've already got an approximate focus. I'd recommend it for casual use but not much more.

Used in the range between 70 and 100 mm, this zoom provides good optical quality, with surprisingly pleasant bokeh. Between 200 and 300mm is always soft, despite the small apertures. The close focus distance is disappointing, with a mere 1,5 m: 0,95 m focus is available only in macro position, at 300mm. Last but not least, the slow and noisy AF and the rotating inner tube are really bothering.

I am not owning this lens but a friend lent it to me for several months...
It is ok from 70 to 200 after that it's very soft.
It needs a lot of light for good result...
AF is very slow and noisy but works fine.
Macro... well it's not really a Macro lens, but you can get good close-up results anyway.
This is an old lens, built quality is ok but I am sure you can get something better for the same price.

I'd get the Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G instead.
