Sigma AF 100-300mm f/4.5-6.7 DL Reviews

This 3x consumer-grade zoom lens might appear to be similar to the Sigma 70-300 DL macro but it is quite different. It is better at the long end than the short end. My sample has little distortions, slight pincusion throughout, no significant vignetting but is significantly soft top right and bottom left at maximum aperture at 100mm. I'm using it on a Fuji S5 and while an A4 print illustrates this softness clearly at 100mm and F4.5, by f8 the print is satisfactory and more so at 300mm. 7" x 4.67" prints are entirely satisfactory. After f11 diffraction affects sharpness. The lens does not revolve while zooming but it does when focusing so polarising filters would be difficult. I had the option of returning it but have held on to it and though it will not get a great deal of use its reasonable performance and light weight make it well worth what I paid for it.
