Too bad this lens is not made anymore. Talk about a well built, quality lens with super fast AF and lens sharpness that is hard to beat. Unless one spends more than $1,000.00, this is a tremendous bargain if one can locate an excellent condition used lens on the market. As all zooms, this one is a little soft at the longest focal length, but still very good indeed. It is of the old Nikon build quality and considering it is not a DX lens only, what a value it is for both film and digital. I use it on a Nikon D50 and D200 and am not disappointed in this lens at all.

Bought this lens for film new in 1994 and didn't use it much because I was shooting 90% medium format. When I went digital I dug it out and found it surprisingly razor sharp from 70mm to about 150mm, and not bad at all beyond that, if you stick to f8/11. AF is super fast. This is a great lens for DX and future-proofs you for FX. Build is superb - tough (but nice looking) plastic and metal combo. D versions can be found for under $150. A real steal given the quality.
