Nikon AF 35-70 f/2.8 Reviews

It is a solidly built lens, which performs respectably across the zoom range. At middle apertures delivers excellent results, and just good performance anywhere else, both in terms of resolution and distortion. I started using this lens less and less, as its zoom range is rather limited. In fact, 35mm is not wide enough, and 70mm fails short to deliver a genuine portrait feel. Well, I wish Nikon made a 28-85mm f/2.8!

First of all,,I am a working Pro Freelance Photographer shooting breaking news events in all weather and any time of day and have to be ready to shoot just about everything imaginable with very little time to get my pictures.
I use a Nikon F-4e with 200 ASA print film along with 2 Nikon D-2x,s with 25 nikon lenses . My Nikon 35-70mm f:2.8 Zoom is my prefered lens on my F-4e and is always mounted on it. I also use it on my digital cameras as a medium range zoom with excellent results.
This lens is one of the real high quallity lenses that Nikon has ever made ! It has the the right feel and is made like it will last for a lifetime and it just might out last me. The push pull design is very easy to use and fous is just as good. The images that can be had with this lens are the best with crisp, sharp high color saturation. Very rugged and is very well suited for Photojournalism. I can only say very good things about this lens with the very small exception of the front barrel rotating while focusing. Not a big problem unless you use a polarizing filter often,,and I don't ! I would recomend this lens to anyone wanting the best images from both film or digital formats.

This is a top quality performer, but has a limited range. If the steep resale prices (US$250-$350+) scare you, consider the 35-70/3.5 AI-S, a true pro-quality lens selling for about 1/3 this.
