Nikon 50mm f/1.2 Reviews

I one this lens for almost 8 years and I'm more then satisfied. My primary goal was to get me a lens capable of producing hi shutter speeds for hand-held night shutting and this prime gave me much more that I expected for it.
Considering that I also have few other 50mm primes like 50/1.8 AF, 50/2.0 AI I didn't expected 50/1.2 to perform so good, and so close to some famous Nikkor (K) 50mm f 2.0. Only thing that you must take in consideration is that it performs average on 1.2 stop but with little correction i.e. one step further at 1.4 and beyond it perform superb!

A good specialty lens, but not what I'd call a good general purpose lens. I got it for hand-held low light and stage performance photography and it performs well in those contexts.

At full aperture, this lens exhibits overall soft contrast and some, but not terrible vingetting. Stopping down to f1.4 improves on both somewhat, but much more so at f2.8 and smaller.

The single biggest drawback for the f1.2 is the pronounced barrel distortion it imparts at all apertures - no architectural work for this one, girls!
