This is an excellent lens, which has, alas, a big drawback - camera (both G1 and G2) often makes mistakes by focusing this lens. I have two G2 bodies, and both of them often either miscalculate distance to the object or focus on something else. As a result, up to half of pictures could be out of focus. When focus is correct, picture quality is outstanding, but do not expect to get 100% perfect results by handling this lens. That's why I cannot give perfect rating for handling this lens - what's a n importance of excellent optical quality of this lens, if there are serious focusing problems with this lens. It is not a lens fault, but a rangefinder focusing algorithm. All rangefinders (as Contax G2) are perfect with wide angle lenses, but they are not designed to handle telephoto precise work. That's why it's easy to find this lens on e-bay for $100, it's not the main and perfect lens for Contax G2 system. I worship Contax G2 for its magic wide and super wide angle lenses (like Hologon 16mm and Biogon 21mm). When it comes to a serious telephoto work, I just grab my Nikon with telephoto Nikkors. Nevertheless, I recommend it for everybody, who has Contax G system - just try it, it is sharp and could be found very cheap as secondhand, just be prepared for some scrutiny with handling and focusing it.

Superb. One of the finest lenses ever made, for any format, by anyone. Far exceeds Nikkor. Such a pity Kyocera made it without basics such as focus ring, specifically for the G2 body. I hope for the day someone somewhere makes either a new body for this lens, or a new digital back for the old G2.

A superb lens, creating superb IQ even for digital. With the Metabones adapter, this lens is easy to focus on the Sony A7R - in fact focus is better this way than on auto with the G2! There can be very slight CA under extreme testing, which appears to be a common factor for a Sonnar lens (all my Leica lenses show CA faults, too).

Agree, it's a pity Zeiss did not design the G series with manual focus rings on the lenses - this would be a far superior solution than the focus on the adapter.
