I've owned the Minilta 80-200 f2.8 "High speed" lens, (not).. The Canon 80-200mm f2.8 EF L, and the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L lenses, plus I used the Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 AFS lens prior to owning this lens, and I say that the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L lens is at least as good as any of them. It has a much closer focus distance of 1.4 meters, and obviously, IS.

I made the decision to upgrade from my non IS version of the 70-200mm f2.8 L which I bought new in 2000, after hanging out with a fellow professional photographer about a year ago, who let me try out his lens.. It took ,e a good 2 seconds to realize that I must get one eventually.. and so I finally did a few months ago..and I really like it a lot!

It is built just as nice as the old one.. The lens hood,..it is a little loose feeling, but that is me being nit picky.. It is just as sharp as my old one as far as I can tell.. I've heard the non IS is slightly sharper..... yeah, it must be like splitting a hair ten times..vs 11 times.. LOL! I haven't had a chance to use it with teleconverters, because I use my longer lenses for longer reach.. :-) I managed to get a usable shot at the 200mm end at 1/4 of a second with IS mode 1, and the panning mode is really nice as I've learned already..

The AF seems a tad more "peppy" than the Non IS, and it's AF is about as reliable as the old one too..

I'm happy! :-)
